Sandia Preparatory School is currently seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as the Chief Financial Officer. This hands-on leadership role directs and oversees the financial activities of the school. This highly visible position directs the preparation of financial reports and summaries and creates forecasts predicting future growth. As a member of the senior administrative team, the CFO reports directly to the Head of School and regularly collaborates with other members of the senior leadership team, as well as staff, faculty, parents and the Board of Trustees. The CFO will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing and controlling financial decisions. The ideal candidate will be a thoughtful and prudent manager of the School’s operations and dedicated staff.
Responsibilities/The Value You Deliver
Direct and oversee all aspects of the School’s finance and accounting functions, inclusive of budgets, accounting, financial reporting, audits, taxes, purchasing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, internal controls, long-term planning, cash management, risk management, legal compliance and financial aid.
Oversee payroll and benefits administration in conjunction with the Human Resource Director.
Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range plans and new programs/strategies.
Establish and maintain strong relationships within the School to help identify needs and provide solutions
Supervise the front office staff, including accounting and reception.
Ensure effective internal controls are in place and that the School complies with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
Provide financial information to the Head of School, Board of Trustees, administrators, and donors; exhibit full transparency regarding restricted and unrestricted funds.
Manage and direct the annual operating budget.
Serve as the liaison to the Finance, Investment and 403(b) committees of the Board of Trustees.
Review financial aid applications, compile information to recommend individual financial aid awards, and manage related correspondence with families.
The Expertise We are Looking For/The Expertise You Have
Bachelor’s degree in finance or similar discipline required; CPA or MBA preferred.
Ten years of progressively responsible and professional accounting experience.
Broad-based and fully developed management experience, with a demonstrated record of directing financial operations, preparing financial statements and performing complex analysis.
